This blog was written on the field by Zavier, one of the youth that was in Denver. Zavier came on the trip not sure what to expect. However, with Jesus, Zavier found himself changed:
God has done some major stuff in my life for the past week; I have learned to be more open towards people, though I have not talked to a random stranger or handed out water and prayed for that person. I have learned to be more trusting in the Lord to get me through hard and scary times. I have gotten lost, shared my testimony, had arguments as to whether Batman is cool, and even talked to a crowd, which I didn’t think I would ever muster the courage to do. I’m glad I came on this mission trip; it has been both a blessing and a wakeup call all at the same time. I did not know what to expect and for a while I thought I had make a mistake, though I was completely wrong. The Lord has completely changed me in such a short time, something I didn’t expect.
I have met a few people that I was originally wary of, only to find it kills me to leave them behind, hoping to see them sometime in the near future. Again I did not expect to find great friends from other states on this event, but what shocked everyone was me being a complete blabber mouth the entire week, some have even commented on that being the very first time they have heard me speak and that I have a very deep voice. I have made new friends within the youth group, and gotten closer to others. There were times I thought the entire trip was going to crash and burn, only to find it just might be the second best thing that could have ever happened to me. The first being six months ago when I realized I was not who I thought I was for 15 years of my life and gave my life to Christ. So I guess the point God has laid on my heart is that life is full of surprises, good or bad, and that you should not try to expect what’s going to happen, and just trust in the Lord to take the wheel of your life.
