As the teens flooded into the warehouse we stayed in Denver for the week, I watched shy people start mingling and settling in. By the end of the week I saw brave joyous souls full of laughter share their stories.
What brought them out of their shells? I have always asked that question. Freedom and Jesus. How were these two things introduced to them? They sought it out.
Denver is a hard place. It's a large city with lost people that aren't very open to hearing about the change of Christ. But they still need Him. These teens, despite the opposition, went out in small groups all with the intention of just sharing God's love through listening to the homeless. It was a hard thing to do but as they made courageous steps together, they were unified. They learned how to work, pray and listen together. At night they would share their stories, and the more they shared their stories the more they wanted Jesus to come.
And He did. He showed up. When they saw Him minister to the people around them they tore down their walls to let Him into the deep places in their lives.
A lot happens when you allow other people into your thoughts and insecurities. You see that you're not alone. And that kind of knowledge brings so much courage. So Denver is full of possibilities. Denver is full of lost people. Denver is full of opportunity. Denver is ready for freedom.
